Gardening December Poplar Bluff

Master Garden Poplar Bluff

"Tips to help you with your December Poplar Bluff gardening schedule."

by Master Gardener Nancy

  • Refrigerate spring bulbs now for forcing and planting in pots. .
  • Water your live Christmas tree with ice cubes and when you bring it in, keep from heaters.
  • Order seeds for spring planting.
  • Plant spring flowering bulbs before the ground freezes.
Watch for freezing temperatures and be sure to unscrew your hoses from the faucets if freeze warning.
  • Continue to water your plants until freezing weather to avoid decimation of plants. The air is very dry and wicks the moisture away from plants now..
Continue feeding the birds and wildlife.
  • Continue raking leaves and debris so insects and disease do not hide.
Lightly prune evergreens for holiday indoor decorations.
  • Buy your amaryllis bulbs now so they'll bloom by Christmas.
    Continue feeding pansies.
  • Now is a good time to make structural changes to your landscape and plan your garden for the new year.
  • You might still have time to winterize your sprinklers. Disconnect your hoses from the faucet to prevent freeze damage to your pipes and hoses. Put hoses away.
  • Delay pruning of fruit and nut trees until January or February.
  • Send for seed catalogs.
